Amoco faces lawsuits in tumor diagnoses (Return to index) A lawyer whose father died of a rare form of brain cancer has filed suit against Amoco Corp., alleging that six workers developed head tumors because of inadequate safety regulations at Amoco's Naperville, Ill., research center. The suit, filed in Cook County Circuit Court, points to workers' contact with toxic chemicals and seeks more than $100,000 each for the deceased's estate and the other plaintiffs. In all, 20 tumors have been found in people who work or worked at the center, and four people have died. More lawsuits have been filed. For further details, see the story in the Dec. 15 edition of the Chicago Tribune. Florida trademark case nets top award (Return to index) A Florida company that sued for trademark infringement has won what is believed to be the largest-ever damage award in state history for such a violation. Immuno Vital Inc. of Miami, which sells nutritional supplements, sued rival Nutrivida Inc. of Brooklyn, N.Y., after the New York company started using images of an actor who endorsed one of Immuno's products. The actor was unknowingly filmed by Nutrivida, which was ordered to pay Immuno $15 million. A previous $50 million award in a Florida trademark case has been thrown out. For full details, see the story in the Dec. 17 Florida Daily Business Reviews.
